On Sunday the mercury hovered at -2 degrees F at six-thirty in the morning. That was before the wind chill. Tomorrow, in theory, we'll climb above freezing for the first time in two and a half weeks. Maybe, just maybe I can hook up a hose and wash the salt off the car. The cold has only been a part of the story. Most days since Christmas we've had anywhere from 1-4 inches of snow as well. Not a day goes by when I don't think that I'd rather be cleaning stalls or mucking up elephant dung rather than shoveling white stuff from the driveway. Circus season is coming, and the first tents in much of the country won't be up for awhile yet, but somewhere somebody is patching vinyl and welding in winter quarters. Right now it seems a bit far from here, but it's coming.

If it's any consolation, tents are already up in Florida. With Walker opening this weekend in the Keys. And the Liebling show making it's annual tour of Orlando suburbs, mudshows are awake in Florida. Also, Alain Zerbini is playing the East Coast of Florida right now, but will head back to winter quarters for another month before heading out for an official opening.
